Microsoft to release Surface Buds to compete with Amazon and Apple

Microsoft's Surface-branded true wireless earbuds are reportedly in the pipeline to take on Apple's AirPods.

According to Thurrott, who spoke to sources familiar with the company's plans, the Redmond tech giant is now working on a pair of buds under the codename "Morrison" set for release later this year. While audio companies like Sennheiser and RHA look to make true wireless headphones with the primary goal of merging sound quality with convenience, for Microsoft, it could be an attempt to make an entry into the mobile space after not having much success with smartphones.

Apple's lineup of AirPods wireless earbuds has been immensely successful, and the rest of the tech industry is still trying to catch up. It's unclear when this product will ship, assuming it hasn't already been canceled.

Georgia Engel, star of ‘The Mary Tyler Moore Show,’ dies at 70
The actress, born Georgia Bright Engel, was born on July 28, 1948, in Washington to parents Benjamin and Ruth Engel. She is seen here at the opening night of the Broadway musical The Drowsy Chaperone in 2006.

It wouldn't be Microsoft's first foray into high-end headphones, either.

Microsoft has not confirmed the report and as such, there is no timetable for the earbuds release.

Microsoft may include some features that make it easier for users to read content on their phone using the Surface Buds, but it's not yet clear what that will entail, according to Thurrott.

New OnePlus 7 renders showcase a surprisingly familiar Android flagship phone
There are going to be three cameras at the back of the phone, combining 48MP + 20MP + 5MP sensors and a 16MP front-facing camera. Maybe that's the difference between the OnePlus 7 and the OnePlus 7 Pro , also coinciding with the " Go Beyond Speed " moniker.

Cortana, Microsoft's digital assistant, is also built into the headphones.

The headphones, under the reported codename Morrison - a likely reference to The Doors frontman Jim Morrison - could be called Surface Buds, though that could change, Thurrott reports.

The company's reinvention under Satya Nadella has brought us many things, some good, some bad, but one of the words that keep coming back is "cuckold". There is a possibility that the buds may be released later this year, but no specified time frame has been mentioned.
