Michael Thalassitis, English soccer player who starred on reality TV show 'Love Island,' dies at 26

File photo dated 7/2/2018 of former Love Island contestant Mike Thalassitis who has died aged 26, his management has confirmed.

"Muggy Mike" as he was known on the reality TV show was found dead in the woods near his home in Essex.

Thalassitis, who appeared on the show in 2017, was a former footballer who had played for clubs including St Albans and Chelmsford.

Since news of his death broke, fans and co-stars have taken to social media to pay their tributes to the late reality star. Please stop brandishing that.

It's uncertain what caused Mike Thalassitis's death at the tender age of 26 but it's raised questions around the welfare of Love Island stars following the show.

Referencing Thalassitis' nickname "Muggy Mike" - which The Guardian reports he earned after partnering with fellow Love Island contestant Chris Hughes' girlfriend - Hughes urged fans not to disrespect his friend's memory. "My thoughts go out to all of Mikes friends and family".

James Jordan posted: "My heart goes out to his family and friends at this hard time". You were the kindest soul, you were so amusing and you had so much to live for.
