With about the same parking footprint-perhaps a few inches longer, as Tesla can't yet confirm the final dimensions-the Model Y offers what we noted to be a relatively roomy interior, with a slightly higher seating height and plenty of headroom. But Ford had a trademark - or something - on the letter E, Musk said, so his team convinced him that a 3 looks enough like a backwards E that everyone would get the joke.
Elon Musk at a Tesla press event on Thursday evening announced the electric automaker's latest vehicle. Pricing and performance (lower case p) covers a wide swath of market options, from the $40,200 (with $1200 delivery) Standard model to the $61,200 Performance (incl. del.). However, the Standard Range won't make an appearance until Spring 2021. The Long Range can be upgraded to dual-motor all-wheel drive for $4,000 more. You'll pay for it though, with prices starting around $60,000 (£45,280). The slowest Model Y, the Standard, will hit 60 in 5.9 seconds and have a top speed of 120 miles per hour, while Performance buyers can expect to be able to achieve 150 miles per hour. Competition is heating up, however, and the new Model Y will seek to carve a larger slice of the SUV pie.
The higest spec'd variant - the Performance Model Y - will have an acceleration rate of 0-60mph (96.5km/hr) in 3.5 seconds, a real world range of 280 miles (450km) and a top speed of 150mph (241km.hr). Both configurations include a panoramic glass roof that adds to the feeling of spaciousness.

Referring to one of his other day jobs as CEO at SpaceX, Musk half-jokingly said "we will be driving a Tesla on Mars" in 10 years.
The three most expensive models will available internationally from Q3 2020, with the standard arriving during Q2 2021.
The order books are open.

If you want to get your hands on a Model Y, Tesla is now taking orders.
Tesla revealed the Model Y small crossover at its Southern California offices late Thursday night. Without knowing for sure whether the constraint at Fremont is simply space (which has doubtless been squeezed by the two more or less unusable Model 3 general assembly lines built before the tent-based GA3 line) or paint shop air quality permits, it's impossible to completely rule out Fremont-based North American production and Tesla is staying cagey about manufacturing plans.
A Tesla logo is seen at a groundbreaking ceremony of Tesla Shanghai Gigafactory in Shanghai, China January 7, 2019. Get it; Model S, Model 3, Model X and Model Y? Model Y is notably a little bit taller than the Model 3 particularly at the rear of the vehicle. Its battery would have the capacity to last for 230 miles.

She was forced to apologize several days later after her viewers slammed her for being "ignorant" and "spoiled". The same week she posted that video, she put up an apology response.
Model Y also connects with the Tesla Mobile app for unique, easy-to-access features like remote unlock, Summon, remote pre-conditioning, location tracking, Speed Limit Mode, and much more.
It doesn't have falcon-wing doors.
