Champions League Round of 16: Overwhelming Support for Juventus to Beat Atletico Madrid

For the usually defensively sound Atlético, a two-goal advantage should have been enough.

The forward that they were facing, Cristiano Ronaldo, was someone they knew well and, once again, it was the Champions League record-breaker who did all the damage.

TNT will broadcast Juventus versus Atletico Madrid, and UniMas will broadcast it in Spanish in the United States.

It was Ronaldo's eighth hat-trick in the competition, moving him level with Barcelona's Lionel Messi and demonstrating why Juventus paid Real Madrid 112 million (NZ$184.2 million) for the Portugal star who has dominated the competition in recent years. It was a good outing for Juventus as the match allowed key players like Cristiano Ronaldo and Paulo Dybala to rest.

Barca coach Valverde also emphasised how tough the match was. "I give a lot of value to every win, it's important to keep stringing together victories".

The Italian side invested heavily into signing Cristiano Ronaldo in the summer in an attempt to make all the difference in the Champions League.

Ronaldo was loudly booed when his name was announced before the match, and he drew even louder jeers from the Atletico crowd when he prompted the game to be interrupted because he remained on the ground after getting his foot stepped on later in the first half. As the final whistle blew on a second leg that saw the lead overturned, the hat-trick hero made a decision to follow suit. Whilst in the 2016 final he scored the winning penalty, whipped his shirt off and did his trademark celebration in front of the Atleti fans. Juventus enters the game trailing 2-0 and probably needs Ronaldo to continue terrorizing Atletico Madrid in order to advance.

Ronaldo has now scored 25 goals against Atletico in his career, with the former Real Madrid forward's treble on Tueday denying his old club's city rivals the chance to play in this season's final at their Wanda Metropolitano home.
