Russia's Medvedev wins ATP Sofia Open

Gael Monfils has won 93 per cent of points on his first serve to reach the semi-finals of the Sofia Open with a 6-3 7-6 (5) win over emerging Greek talent Stefanos Tsitsipas.

The 32-year-old eased through the first set after breaking Tsitsipas's serve first up and comfortably won the tiebreak in the second. "The title is what I came here for", Medvedev said at the post match press conference.

Medvedev finished the job with a break to love. Saturday's other semifinal sees Matteo Berrettini - a 4-6, 7-5, 6-4 victor over Fernando Verdasco - take on Marton Fucsovics, who benefitted from 2016 champion Roberto Bautista Agut's withdrawal due to illness.

22-year-old Russian Daniil Medvedev earned his fourth title since the beginning of 2018 on Sunday, and he made it look easy as he cruised past Marton Fucsovics of Hungary, never allowing the 27-year-old World No.47 a chance to get comfortable. With the confidence from the win, Daniil Medvedev will be very hard to stop.
