Think you can save Android Wear?

This week, Google advertised for a Vice President of Hardware Engineering for Wearables.

BCE Q4 net profit falls due to writedown, expenses; revenue above estimates
Canada arrested Huawei Chief Financial Officer Meng Wanzhou in Vancouver on December 1, after a USA request. The company's closely-watched wireless division added 121,780 net new subscribers in the fourth quarter.

The postings are quite clear in regards to the importance of Google's wearable projects as they directly state the two future hires in question are meant to be on close working terms with the hardware unit's senior leadership as they come up with ways to create new and improve existing products. When you couple this new position - as well as the $40 million Google just paid Fossil for secret, unfinished smartwatch tech, which the image at the top of this post is a reference to - you can start to see how it adds up to something important about the direction of Google's wearable efforts.

It's been around four years since Google launched Wear OS, formerly called Android Wear, but we still don't have any wearable such as a smartwatch or fitness tracker from Google itself yet. Google hasn't revealed how it'll use Fossil's team or technology, except to say the deal will pave the way for a more "diverse portfolio of smartwatches". Qualcomm isn't producing smartwatch chips that can go toe-to-toe with the in-house chip production from Apple and Samsung, which leaves Wear OS hopelessly lacking compared to faster and longer-lasting watches from Apple and Samsung. They are all built on a manufacturing process technology from 2013, which means Wear OS devices can't compete with Apple or Samsung when it comes to speed, battery life, or device compactness.

Arizona facility where incapacitated woman gave birth is shutting down
Hacienda said it would work with the state to transition about three dozen patients to other facilities before closing. The long-term care facility in Arizona where an incapacitated woman was raped, and later gave birth, will close.

Right now, Google only has one wearable product with its own branding, that being the Google Pixel Buds, so it may be the company is looking to expand that line or it may be planning more Google Daydream VR related products too. There's also a new listing for a Wearables Design Manager, but the job listing doesn't provide as much information.
