"I think it's clear how explicitly twisted my thinking was at the time", she continued.

Lady Gaga, whose real name Stefani Joanne Angelina Germanotta, said if she could go back in time and talk to her younger self, she would have told her to seek therapy or help.

The statement comes in light of the Lifetime documentary series, Surviving R. Kelly, in which several women allege Kelly had sexually assaulted them.

At a press conference on Tuesday, Chicago state attorney Kimberly Foxx urged anyone with information to come forward. R Kelly denies all the allegations, saying he will "sue everybody".

The series includes interviews with those close to R. Kelly and alleged victims who have revealed that the singer constantly preyed on underage girls.

John Legend, on one hand, readily appeared in the series and denounced Kelly, tweeting, "I believe these women and don't give a fuck about protecting a serial child rapist". "That we were able to say, the public, they can have our bodies, but they cannot have our mind or our heart".

"We failed our community as black people".
