The wife of one of Norway's wealthiest businessmen who has been missing since late October is feared to have been abducted, Norwegian media outlets reported on Wednesday.

The wife of a wealthy Norwegian businessman has been kidnapped, and those responsible are reportedly asking for the 9million Euro (10 million USD) ransom to be paid in privacy coin Monero (XMR).

Chief investigator Tommy Broeske said the threats in the note were "of a very serious character".

'As the case now stands, police have advised the family not to settle the claim.

He is number 172 on a list of Norway's wealthiest people published by the financial magazine Kapital, with a fortune that amounted to almost 1.7 billion kroner ($200 million) in 2018, according to Norwegian news agency NTB. It is the country's first kidnap for crypto ransom.

A ransom demand for €9 million (£8.1 million) in cryptocurrency has been issued for the release of the 68-year-old woman, the Norwegian Verdens Gang newspaper said.

Police inspector Tommy Broske attends a press conference in Lillestrom, some 20 km north of Oslo, January 9, 2019 on the kidnapping of wife of a Norwegian multi-millionaire Tom Hagen, Anne-Elisabeth Falkevik missing for 10 weeks.

Mr Broeske said those behind the kidnap have chosen to communicate digitally and officers have had no other form of contact.

He declined to say whether such a process could eventually lead to a ransom being paid.

Police had no indication whether Falkevik Hagen was dead or alive.

Sony Announces Over 91 Million PlayStation 4 Systems Sold
No doubt part of those sales came from its Black Friday exclusive Spider-Man PS4 Slim bundle , which retailed for a low $199. It still has some way to go to reach the 155 million PS2 consoles Sony sold over that console's lifetime.

This has reportedly prevented the police from searching for the kidnappers as aggressively as they would normally have done, while also limiting their ability to gather evidence in the vicinity of the couple's residence outside of Oslo. "If we do, they are prepared to start a process that could lead to her return", Holden said.

Police said the woman disappeared about 31 miles from the Swedish border.

Through his lawyers, he's decliend to comment on his wife's disappearance.

Norwegian authorities are working together with Europol and Interpol on the case.
