Trump to name Heather Nauert as next U.S. ambassador to the U.N.

- President Trump will tweet Friday morning that he is nominating State Department Spokeswoman Heather Nauert to be the U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations, replacing outgoing official Nikki Haley, multiple sources tell Fox News.

One of the reports came from Fox News, where Ms Nauert has previously worked as a presenter.

Haley announced in October that she would be resigning as the ambassador to the United Nations. Now, she is poised to serve as the United States' permanent representative to the UN's 193 member nations.

Nauert became the state department spokeswoman in April 2017 and this year was named the acting undersecretary for public diplomacy and public affairs. Nauert would need to be confirmed by the Senate before taking up the role.

Meanwhile, news of the arrest has sparked fears on Wall Street that the trade war between the U.S. and China could escalate. Huawei today continues to expand into new areas including chip development, artificial intelligence and cloud computing.

Haley took a particularly forceful posture against Russian Federation, assailing the Kremlin at United Nations security council meetings over its aggression in Ukraine and support for Bashar al-Assad in Syria, even as Trump remained reluctant to criticize Vladimir Putin.
