Former rugby player Chris Dawson arrested in cold case made famous by podcast

Chris Dawson has been arrested and will be charged over the 1982 murder of his wife, Lynette Dawson.

"A 70-year-old Coolum man was arrested by detectives from the Queensland Police Service's Homicide Squad in the presence of Strike Force Scriven investigators at Biggera Waters, on the Gold Coast, in Queensland", NSW police said.

The case has been brought back to light following the hugely successful crime podcast The Teacher's Pet, produced by The Australian.

An inquest in 2003 found that Mr Dawson, a former high school teacher and rugby league star, had engaged in sexual relationships with teenage students during his marriage.

Describing it as a "voluminous" evidence brief, Fuller said the additional evidence - including two discovered through podcast - had "helped us tie pieces of the puzzle together".

Ms Barnes argued that her client had a brother in NSW with whom he could live if bail was granted and said Mr Dawson was happy to check in at a local police station regularly.

The suspensions have also weakened Australia's batting line-up and Pujara was adamant India's fast bowlers can capitalise. Back in 2014, Mitchell Johnson and Virat Kohli had a go at each other during the Melbourne Test.

Lynette Dawson's body was never found.

Fuller said two additional witnesses have come forward since April.

Dawson, 70, was taken into police custody yesterday and was denied bail in a Gold Coast court, where he placed his hands over his ears as the magistrate read out the facts of the murder charge he is set to face. He will appear in Parramatta court on the December 6.

Details of the police case against Mr Dawson were revealed in court.

"The resolve of the Unsolved Homicide Unit detectives shows that they will continue to search for the truth, no matter how many years may pass".

The case has risen to recent prominence as the subject of record-breaking podcast The Teacher's Pet.
