Trump legal team balks at Mueller's questions on post-2016 election activity

Rudy Giuliani Says There Are 'Possible Traps' Among Mueller's Written Questions for Donald Trump

Trump's lashing out on Twitter and reportedly increasingly afraid the Mueller probe will indict his family

President Trump has said that he has answered questions for Special Counsel Robert Mueller's "Russiagate" investigation, but has not submitted those answers yet.

President Donald Trump said Friday he had "very easily" answered written questions from special counsel Robert Mueller, though he speculated that the questions had been "tricked up" to try to catch him in a lie.

Tensions have risen even higher over the probe since Trump last week ousted Jeff Sessions as US attorney general and named Matthew Whitaker as his replacement on an acting basis. There has been widespread media coverage of two Trump allies - Roger Stone and Jerome Corsi - who say they expect to be charged. The move, contested by Democrats, was widely seen as an attempt to wrest oversight of the special counsel investigation from Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein.

"The inner workings of the Mueller investigation are a total mess", Trump tweeted. The president has repeatedly denied any such collusion with Moscow.

Mueller, who took over the investigation in May 2017, is investigating whether members of Trump's campaign conspired with Russian Federation in the 2016 election and whether Trump has unlawfully sought to obstruct the probe, which has cast a cloud over his presidency.

On Friday, Trump said he's not "agitated" by Mueller's probe. There should have never been an investigation, he argued, because there had been no wrongdoing by him or his campaign during the 2016 election.

He also said he believed the courts would reject the legal challenges to Mueller's authority. These included sections relating to both former national security adviser Michael Flynn, former FBI Director James Comey, former Attorney General Jeff Sessions, and questions about possible coordination between the Trump campaign and Russian Federation.

The questions, which focus on the collusion allegation and not issues of obstruction of justice, were the product of grueling negotiations on whether Mr. Trump would testimony.

He said the answers have not yet been submitted to the Mueller investigators.
