Salmonella's symptoms usually start 12 to 72 hours after a person gets exposed to the risky bacteria, according to the Mayo Clinic. Symptoms include diarrhea, fever and abdominal cramps and can last up to seven days. Don't wash the raw turkey itself, however, as this can spread bacteria if the water splashes onto other surfaces. "Leftovers should be reheated to 165°F".

According to the CDC data, Texas, California, Illinois, Minnesota and NY have been the states hardest hit by the salmonella outbreak in raw turkey products.
