Democrats won the national election (despite important setbacks in the US Senate) because of women candidates and women voters. According to data compiled by The Associated Press, 237 women ran for the House as major-party candidates this year. Davids defeated incumbent Republican Kevin Yoder.

New York's Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez became the youngest woman ever elected to Congress at 29-years-old.

Deb Haaland is one of the first Native American woman to win a seat in Congress. Haaland, a Democrat, will represent New Mexico's 1st Congressional District.
