The U.S. National Hurricane Center said early Monday that Willa could "produce life-threatening storm surge, wind and rainfall over portions of southwestern and west-central Mexico beginning on Tuesday".
- Moisture from Hurricane Willa, which is now approaching Mexico's Pacific coast, is expected to bring cold and rainy weather to the Triangle this weekend. Tropical storm warnings ranged from Playa Perula north to San Blas and from Mazatlan north to Bahia Tempehuaya.
The NHC forecasts the storm will move near or over Las Islas Marias early Tuesday, and make landfall along the west-central coast of mainland Mexico Tuesday afternoon or evening.
Its core was about 220 miles (355 kilometers) southeast of Acapulco with top sustained winds of 40 mph (65 kph) late Sunday.
Mexico: Caravan of thousands of immigrants resumes march to United States border
Late Sunday, authorities in Guatemala said another group of about 1,000 migrants had entered that country from Honduras. He said he was recently deported from the United States after a brush with the law that he did not specify.
The storm is expected to weaken after passing over the Sierra Madre mountains, after which the remnants of Willa likely will bring significant rainfall to Texas.
Willa is now located about 175 miles southwest of Puerto Vallarta, moving north at 7 mph.
While Willa is expected to weaken before making landfall, it may still pose major hazards.
"Willa is moving toward the north near 8 miles per hour, and this general motion should continue tonight".
If you are one the few out there who can successfully disconnect from the real world over the weekend (social media, internet, television), then you might have trouble comprehending Hurricane Willa.

Rondo pointed to the fact that he was wearing a mouthguard, which would impact his ability to intentionally spit on someone. The NBA suspended LA Lakers players Rajon Rondo and Brandon Ingram without pay after the mid-game brawl.
The expectation is that hurricane Willa will sustain its major status, but the pressure is the deciding factor for this storm and its potential to trigger the catastrophe bond, as landfall in the parametric zone looks assured.
See, as of Saturday morning, Willa was not due to reach the coast until late in the week, as a much weaker storm nonetheless.
Willa is expected to douse coastal states Jalisco, Nayarit and Sinaloa with 6 to 12 inches (15 to 30 cm) of rain, likely triggering flash floods and landslides, the NHC said.
In Atlantic Canada, most of the storm will be felt as high winds and heavy rainwith mild temperatures.
Tropical Storm Vicente is also expected to impact the country Tuesday, but farther south than Walla, and the weakening system may dissipate by the time it gets there, the National Hurricane Center said.
