China Cancels Security Meeting, Mattis Cancels Trip to Beijing

Secretary of Defence James Mattis canceled a trip to Beijing originally scheduled for mid-October after China informed the USA that Chinese officials would not be available to meet him for the annual diplomatic and security dialogue.

Mattis told reporters Monday traveling with him to Paris that the us just has to learn how to manage its relationship with the communist nation.

"There's tension points in the relationship, but based on discussions coming out of NY last week and other things that we have coming up, we do not see it getting worse", Mattis told reporters traveling with him to Paris. "We'll sort this out", Mattis added. A United States official, speaking on the condition of anonymity, said Mattis was no longer going to China. They spoke on condition of anonymity to discuss internal planning.

The US State Department declined to comment.
