After days of restraint, Trump lashes out at alleged Kavanaugh victim

Trump Defends Supreme Court Nominee as Accuser Faces Deadline

Ford lawyers say she is open to testifying, but not Monday

In the call, she said Ford needs time to secure her family, prepare her testimony and travel to Washington. Kavanaugh has denied the allegations.

Committee Republicans have planned for only Kavanaugh and Ford to testify, but Democrats want other witnesses, too. That word from her attorney could breathe new life into the prospect of a dramatic Senate showdown next week over Ford's accusation that he assaulted her when both were in high school.

United States media report that the panel has now offered to hold the hearing next Wednesday. The Senate should carefully weigh Ford's allegations - and Kavanaugh's denials - but Ford's decision not to tell authorities when she was 15 is not an important factor here.

More concerning for Trump might have been the angry reaction of one of his own Republican senators, Susan Collins, who sits on the Judiciary Committee.

Brett Kavanaugh's path to the Supreme Court is looking rocky.

What has Mr Trump said?

'I ask that she bring those filings forward so that we can learn date, time, and place!'

"I think it's a very sad situation", he said, asking, "Why didn't somebody call the Federal Bureau of Investigation 36 years ago?".

Mr Hari Sankar told reporters that the bishop was served a notice to appear before the probe team at 10.30 a.m. on Friday. The protest then received massive support with an umbrella organisation being formed titles Save Sisters Action Council.

Trump used a string of tweets to blame the entire row on "radical left wing politicians" seeking to "destroy and delay" Kavanaugh's confirmation. Before the 2016 presidential election, more than a dozen women accused Trump of making unwanted advances. "I mean, you could also say when did this all happen, what is going on?"

Strategists from both parties said they were awaiting fresh polling on Kavanaugh that could provide better insight on how voters were viewing the situation.

If there are no further revelations, the party plans to vote on Kavanaugh's nomination in the Judiciary Committee shortly after hearing her testimony.

What was Prof Ford's account?

She told the newspaper that she discussed the alleged assault in 2012 when she attended couples therapy with her husband.

In a statement on Wednesday, a lawyer for Ford said her client was willing to cooperate with the committee, but criticized its plan to have only Ford and Kavanaugh testify.

She told a senior Democratic lawmaker of her allegation in a confidential letter this summer and only consented to be named after it was leaked.

"Judge Kavanaugh has not asked to have the FBI investigate these claims".

What does the committee say?

She wants the FBI to investigate to establish a baseline of facts about what she and others say before she'll agree to talk to the Judiciary Committee, especially in a public hearing.

Ford's lawyers are rejecting pressure for her to testify early next week, resulting in a drawn-out negotiation over the timing of what promises to be an explosive piece of political theater.

Will the conditions be accepted?

I'm providing a notice of a vote to occur Monday in the event that Dr. Ford's attorneys don't respond or Dr. Ford decides not to testify. The committee has also invited Kavanaugh to testify on Monday.

Trump spent most of the week unusually restrained and heeding the tone set publicly by counselor Kellyanne Conway.

Neither is it traditional for any subpoenas to be issued for the nomination process.

Grassley said he'd consented to several other Ford demands, including that she be provided security and that Kavanaugh not be in the hearing room when she testifies. Ford's lawyers said in a letter to Grassley on Tuesday she had faced "vicious harassment and even death threats" since coming forward on Sunday. "I don't think somebody as educated as she is is going to make this up", Zika, a former college professor, said.

Twelve of Ford's family members wrote an open letter, posted on Twitter by her niece, actress and singer Bridgit Mendler, calling Ford "highly ethical" and saying "her honesty is above reproach".
