Border Patrol agent arrested accused of killing four women

Suspect Identified as Border Patrol Agent in Serial Murder Case

A US Border Patrol agent was taken into custody in Texas on Saturday morning in connection with the killings of four people and aggravated kidnapping, according to Webb County Sheriff Martin Cuellar.

"We have probable cause to believe that he is responsible for this series of murders, which I would qualify as a serial murderer", said Isidro Alaniz, Webb County district attorney.

Law enforcement officers gather near the scene where the body of a woman was found near Interstate 35 north of Laredo, Texas on Saturday.

Ortiz was arrested after the fifth woman managed to flee.

Texas authorities have charged a U.S. Border Patrol supervisor with murdering four female sex workers during a two-week killing spree that ended when a fifth woman escaped from him and found help.

Mass evacuations ordered as Hurricane Florence approaches US
North Carolina Governor Roy Cooper warned that "disaster is at the doorstep", and "tens of thousands" of buildings may be flooded. In other words, this hurricane will basically stall - pounding the same parts of the Carolinas over and over again.

Authorities didn't immediately disclose the victims' names or nationalities.

He said that authorities believe Ortiz had killed all four women since September 3.

A U.S. Customs and Border Protection spokesperson confirmed Ortiz is a supervisory Border Patrol agent.

The bodies of two women were found earlier in the week, and another two were found early Saturday morning.

Ortiz was a 10-year veteran of the Border Patrol.

"We have very strong evidence that he is the person who has been killing", Sheriff Cuellar said at a press conference posted on CNN affiliate KGNS's Facebook page.

While it was not agency policy to comment on the details of an ongoing investigation, Meehan said, criminal conduct by CBP employees is not and will not be tolerated. They also say that Ortiz was acting alone and no one else is suspected in these murders.

"The manner in which they were killed is similar in all the cases from the evidence", said Alaniz.

His statement added: "Our sincerest condolences go out to the victims' family and friends".
