Trump says his response to the hurricane that killed almost 3,000 people was 'incredibly successful'

"If he thinks that's an unparalleled success, God only knows what he would think a failure would be", Connolly said on CNN's "The Situation Room".

Trump first boasted of the "incredibly successful" job the administration did in Puerto Rico, when asked if there were lessons learned from response to that hurricane, as he commemorated the 17th anniversary of the terrorist attack that killed 3K in NYC, Virginia and Pennsylvania.

At the time, the administration committed to a more aggressive response to storms that struck Texas, even as that situation there became more manageable and Puerto Rico desperately needed more assistance.

In the tweet, Trump also touted his administration's response to other hurricanes past year and doubled down on his insistence Tuesday that his administration's response to Hurricane Maria was "an incredible, unsung success".

"Now is not the time to pass judgment; it is time to channel every effort to improve the lives of over 3 million Americans in Puerto Rico", Rosselló said.

With a monster hurricane spinning towards the east coast, President Donald Trump took a moment during a briefing on Tuesday to herald the terrible, delayed response to 2017's Hurricane Maria as an "unsung success," sparking outrage online. But after visiting the island last September, Trump said that Puerto Ricans were fortunate that the storm did not yield a catastrophe akin to the havoc wreaked by Hurricane Katrina along the Gulf Coast.

While the President has frequently praised the government response in the year since the hurricane, others in the administration have acknowledged learned lessons. Trump again called it an "unsung success" hampered by San Juan Mayor Carmon Yulin Cruz, and the whole "island" thing.

Trump has declared states of emergency for North and SC and Virginia, and canceled campaign events Thursday and Friday in anticipation of the storm.

"My teams knew about it but first they will say, "no we cannot use them, ' months later water was no good for human consumption", he tweeted". "We are sparing no expense".

President Donald Trump on Tuesday said the federal government would spare no expense in responding to the likely damage from Hurricane Florence, which is forecast to slam the Carolina coast later this week.

"They haven't seen anything like what's coming at us in 25, 30 years, maybe ever, " Trump said of the states in the storm's path.
