Lyft launches electric scooters in Denver

The motion passed the by Los Angeles City Council with a 13-0 vote on Tuesday, August 4 will limit scooter companies to 3,000 devices each within the City. These numbers are not set in stone, however, as the Council requested the Department of Transportation to report back on the optimal number of scooters needed to fulfill riders' needs while avoiding overcrowding.

Samponaro said Lyft has received a ton of demand from cities interested in scooters.

According to a city spokesperson, on Thursday city officials collected 19 more scooters from the company Bird, a West Coast-based startup company that brings the scooters to cities all over the country. Rather than waiting for a bus or taking their auto, Lyft users will be able to pull out their phone, unlock a scooter, and then take off to their destination.

The mayor and the city say they are not against a sharing program at all. They will only be available to rent between 6AM and 8PM.

Denver battled scooter companies Bird and Lime in May after they flooded the city's streets with hundreds of scooters.

Lyft's approach differs from that of Bird and Lime, which launched in Denver and many other cities earlier this year without municipal approval.

Lyft plans to launch a scooter-sharing service in Santa Monica on September 17.

The city says it is willing to work on an agreement with the Bird company to allow them to legitimately operate in town, the news release stated.

In the future, operators will be required to use technology that can tell if a device is parked upright.

Parking services also says once a scooter is impounded, the scooter company will be notified of the fee and will charge the last scooter user.

On Friday, the university issued a statement on behalf of Executive Director of Governmental Relations Lawrence Salinas, stating "We respect the City of Fresno's position and want to ensure that all applicable operating permits are in place and will await further guidance".
