In a setback to Trump, Cohen pleads guilty, Manafort convicted

Trump's former attorney Michael Cohen faced his own charges on Tuesday, pleading guilty in federal court to five counts of tax evasion, one count of false statement to a financial institution, one count of unlawful corporate contribution and one count of an excessive campaign contribution.

Regardless, this is still bad news for Trump, as we will soon be able to say "the president's former fixer, who pleaded guilty to crime (s)", which will logically beg a follow-up question: is Trump implicated in any of his fixer's admitted (or unadmitted) crime (s)?

The New York Times reported that the 51-year-old had reached a deal with prosecutors to resolve his case. All offences took place before he joined the Trump campaign and none relates to links with Russian Federation, but the conviction has given a fillip to Mr. Mueller's ongoing investigation.

Cohen once said he would "take a bullet" for Trump, but their relationship has deteriorated since the April FBI raid on Cohen's office, hotel room and home.

In additional to Cohen's personal financial dealings, prosecutors are looking into the hush money payments he made during the 2016 election to women who claimed to have carried out affairs with Trump.
