The European Tour has apologized to United Kingdom golfer Tommy Fleetwood after committing something of a bogey by paying his $150,000 earnings from the British Open to a US PGA club professional of the same name.
However, the world number 11 was left waiting for the sum to be deposited to his account after the European Tour, which handles payments for the event, mistakenly sent it to a United States club pro golfer of the same name.
On Wednesday, a screenshot of the American Fleetwood's bank account was posted to Twitter by a friend, the prize money sitting there just above a purchase at Walmart. "He said, 'No, no no.' He called the bank".
Before all the people out there with names like Justin Thomas or Dustin Johnson start to fantasize what they would do if a similar error was made to their benefit, it is very much worth noting that the error seems to have happened because the other Fleetwood participated in some European Tour events a while ago and is now a golf pro in Florida, according to The Guardian.

His wife and manager, Clare Fleetwood, has received an apology from the European Tour and is trying to establish if the funds have been transfered to the proper account.

The elder Fleetwood is now reportedly in the process of returning the money to the World No. 11 Fleetwood, but at least he can now probably say he's received more money as a pro than any of his colleagues.
Fleetwood, who begins his PGA Championship bid at Bellerive on Thursday, said: "It looks pretty genuine". I know the European Tour are looking into it and I'm sure they will feel pretty bad about it.
