Apple removed most of Infowars' podcasts from iTunes, Facebook banned four pages run by Alex Jones, and Spotify removed Jones' show in a multi-platform crackdown on the conspiracy theorist and his popular website.

The Alex Jones Channel Page, the Alex Jones Page, the InfoWars Page and the Infowars Nightly News Page were removed for violating Facebook's community standards, "including hate speech that attacks or dehumanizes others", the company said.

Jones, who faces several defamation lawsuits arising from his claim that the mass shooting at the Sandy Hook Elementary School was a hoax, argues that his statements are protected speech.

Following the recent suspension of Alex Jones' Facebook page and the removal of InfoWars podcasts from Spotify, Facebook has permanently removed multiple InfoWars pages from its site while Apple has taken steps to remove InfoWars podcasts from its podcast directory.

This is a developing story. BuzzFeed News reported on Sunday that Apple (AAPL) had removed five podcasts associated with InfoWars from iTunes and its podcast app.

It added that the reason for removing Jones' pages was not related to concerns over false news.

He has also promoted a theory that the Sandy Hook massacre was faked by leftwing forces to promote gun control.

Founded in 1999 and often described as "actually only a tiny bit worse than Fox News", InfoWars has over the years gained a large following among far right conservatives.

The shooting left 26 children and adults dead at a CT elementary school.

Jones, who has a verified Twitter account with 825,000 followers, had not addressed Apple's action by early Monday.
