Facebook has begun internally testing its dating feature

But as with any product in testing, there's no guarantee it will look like this or have these features, and Facebook hasn't set a target date for when its dating feature will go public.

App researcher and reverse engineer Jane Manchun Wong dug up the signup screen for the new feature, and shared screenshots on Twitter on Friday. The company has confirmed that the feature is being tested internally and is confidential.

Right now, some of Facebook's staff in the USA are putting the app through its paces, though it's mainly to spot bugs and problems rather than set up any office romances, Facebook says.

The app also appears to allow users to prevent their current Facebook friends from seeing their profile or only match with people who they have mutual friends with. The Dating feature won't cost anything and won't show ads, but Facebook might reconsider the monetization status later on.

A couple of months ago Facebook announced at its F8 developer conference that it was developing a dating app. "This is going to be for building real, long-term relationships and not just for hookups", Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg had said during his keynote.
