If you're located anywhere in North America, you won't be able to see tomorrow's total lunar eclipse...at least not by stepping outside.

"Such long duration of total lunar eclipses had occurred on July 16, 2000 for a totality duration of one hour 46 minutes and another on June 15, 2011 for a totality duration of one hour 40 minutes".

The partial eclipse of the moon will start around 11.54 pm Indian Standard Time on July 27, with the total eclipse beginning at 1 am on July 28.

The next lunar eclipse of such length will happen in 2123.

The full eclipse will begin at approximately 9:13 p.m. UTC, which is just 5:13 p.m. EST, making it impossible to see from anywhere in the United States, Canada, Central America, or Greenland. It happens because, when the sunlight enters Earth's atmosphere which is blocking, the light gets refracted in such a way that the green to violet wavelengths on the visible spectrum scatter more strongly than the red, thus giving the moon a reddish cast.
