Man dies after eating raw oyster, Florida Health said

A 71-year-old man from Sarasota County, Florida died from a bacterial infection he got after eating a bad oyster.

The illness was caused by Vibrio vulnificus, officials said.

Vibrio vulnificus is a naturally occurring bacteria that resides in warm, brackish seawater.

In 2016, there were 46 confirmed cases statewide and 10 fatalities.
