Hundreds Of Cancer Lawsuits Against Monsanto Proceed To Trials

US courts to hear cases that weed-killer sold in UK causes cancer

Cancer Lawsuit Against Agrochemical Company Monsanto Proceeds to Trial

Lawyers for a school groundskeeper dying of cancer have asked a San Francisco jury to find that agribusiness giant Monsanto's widely used weed killer Roundup likely caused his disease.

The judge wanted to determine whether the science behind the claim that Roundup can cause non-Hodgkin's lymphoma had been properly tested and met other requirements to be considered valid.

Chhabria spent a week in March hearing dueling testimony from epidemiologists.

The agrochemical company Monsanto is facing a lawsuit accusing them of having a weed-killing product which causes cancer.

There are hundreds of lawsuits in state and federal courts, and Chhabria is handling more than 400 of them.

Donald Trump apologises to British PM Theresa May over ‘fake news’
He also took aim again at Khan, saying: "I think allowing millions and millions of people to come into Europe is very, very sad". The shadow foreign secretary lashed the US President saying his comments were "rudeness upon rudeness upon rudeness".

However, Monsanto said there's no evidence of a connection between their product and cancer.

US District Judge, Vince Chhabria, described the expert testimony as "shaky" but, crucially, ruled that a reasonable jury could conclude - based on findings of three approved experts - that glyphosate can cause cancer in humans.

Monsanto says in court filings that glyphosate has been deemed safe by "every major regulatory agency".

Chhabria said the evidence, "viewed in its totality, seems too equivocal to support any firm conclusion that glyphosate causes" non-Hodgkin's lymphoma.

Up next, Chhabria said, individual plaintiffs will need to present "enough evidence to warrant a jury trial on whether glyphosate caused the National Hockey League [cause non-Hodgkin's lymphoma] they developed".

Republicans mull holding former FBI lawyer Lisa Page in contempt
If the full House does vote to hold someone in contempt, the matter then moves to the courts, where it has often stalled. The two exchanged text messages saying "we'll stop " a Trump presidency, a report by the FBI Inspector General found.

Roundup, made by U.S. giant Monsanto, is sprayed on gardens and parks and is used by farmers producing food crops.

In 2014, Johnson was diagnosed with non-Hodgkin's lymphoma, a cancer that affects white blood cells. Homeowners use it on their lawns and gardens.

Claims against Monsanto received a boost in 2015, when the International Agency for Research on Cancer - part of the World Health Organization - announced that two pesticides, including glyphosate, are "probably carcinogenic to humans".

A flurry of lawsuits against Monsanto followed, and California added glyphosate to its list of chemicals known to cause cancer. Monsanto has attacked the worldwide research agency's opinion as an outlier. The agency noted that scientific studies from other countries concluded the same.
