'Game of Thrones' leads Emmys field with 22 nominations

The Emmy nominations are in and HBO's "Game of Thrones" leads the pack with 22 nominations.

As a matter of fact, Netflix beat out HBO for the first time in almost 20 years for the most Emmy nominations. Saturday Night Live and Westworld both grabbed 21 nominations each, while The Handmaid's Tale secured 20 nominations.

"The Handmaid's Tale" kept Hulu in the Emmy conversation, and it is still proving to be the reason the streamer is dominating some major awards discussions.

FX's true crime dramatization "The Assassination of Gianni Versace" led the limited series category with 18 nominations, including a best actor nod for Darren Criss who plays the killer of the gay Italian fashion designer.

Also among the nominations: singer John Legend is up for lead actor in a miniseries or movie for his work in "Jesus Christ Superstar: Live in Concert".

Beginning at 11:25 am ET, Wiley and Eggold will reveal the nominees for the 70th Primetime Emmy Awards, airing Monday, Sept. 17 (8/7c) on NBC.
