Brazil have confirmed Fred may require a scan on an ankle injury sustained in training.

Having only just this week been part of a deal to feature at Old Trafford next season from Shakhtar Donetsk, Brazilian star Fred has suffered an injury on global duty which may put him out of this summer's World Cup tournament in Russian Federation.

His start to life as a United player didn't get off to the best of starts though, after a nasty challenge from Real Madrid's Casemiro saw Fred miss days of Brazil training in the build up to the tournament in Russian Federation kicking off on Thursday.

Manchester United-bound midfielder Fred has been ruled out of Brazil's pre-World Cup friendly against Austria on Sunday because of an ankle injury. "Tomorrow we will know whether he will have to be further examined or not".

"He has had an ankle trauma, but it is still too early for any evaluation, he has already begun the recovery work, he had that part in real pain".

Brazil players have praised the intense training sessions but critics say Tite's hard-line approach could affect the future of his players in the World Cup. They will also face group matches against Costa Rica and Serbia, before hopefully progressing to the knockout stages.
