Category 3 Hurricane Bud heads north off Mexican coast

Hurricane Aletta update Has Aletta intensified

GETTY The National Hurricane Centre in Miami has so far issued no warnings for the US

Hurricane Bud weakened rapidly off Mexico's Pacific coast Tuesday as forecasters said they expected cooler waters to rob the storm of most of its punch before it reached the resorts at the southern end of the Baja California Peninsula later in the week. On the Atlantic side, Subtropical Storm Alberto slammed into the Mexican Caribbean in late May, forcing the evacuation of oil workers in the Gulf of Mexico and killing nearly 10 people in Cuba and in the U.S. Southeast.

As of 5 p.m. ET, Bud had winds of 75 miles per hour and was moving to the northwest at 9 miles per hour.

Heavy rain is likely to become the main hazard from the storm over Baja California and Mexico's adjacent mainland coast.
