Nadal in heaven with title No. 11 in Paris

Rafael Nadal picks his best wins ever

Rafael Nadal defeats Dominic Thiem, wins his 11th French Open title

Rafael Nadal won his 11th French Open title on Sunday when he defeated Dominic Thiem in the final.

Nadal joins Australia's Margaret Court as the only player to win 11 titles at the same major.

Thiem, who was trying to become only the second Austrian Grand Slam champion after Tomas Muster's 1995 Paris triumph, played his part in the two hour 42 minute tussle but was unable to sustain the high-octane tennis needed to ruffle Nadal.

That it was not was testimony to Nadal's level, which never wavered, despite everything Thiem threw at him.

At least Thiem has in the past found the key to unravelling the Nadal clay court enigma.

Nadal's 17th major title inevitably brought questions about his ultimate career goals.

Economic globalisation and regional economic integration are the trend of the times", Xi said . Putin said that Moscow would support full-fledged Iranian membership in the group.

- Nadal avenged his defeat to the Swede at Roland Garros 12 months earlier. Midway through the opening set, Nadal's aqua T-shirt was so soaked with sweat it stuck to him.

But while the infrastructure of the world's four Grand Slams gets constantly upgraded, the furniture at the top of men's tennis remains bolted down.

- Nadal claimed his sixth French Open to equal the record of Borg, also taking his Slam total into double figures at 10. The previous record was four, when Australian legend Laver won all the majors in 1969 to complete the Calendar Slam. And he took the biggest of big cuts on his groundstrokes, his feet leaving the ground as he threw his whole body into them, as if the very outcome of the match - not any individual point, but the whole shebang - depended on the strength of that one whip of his white racket.

The Austrian pushed Nadal hard early on but his spirit appeared crushed when the Spaniard won his service game to love to secure the first set, going on to win 6-4, 6-3, 6-2.

- Title number nine in his ninth final for Nadal and his 14th Grand Slam success on an afternoon where temperatures nudged 30 degrees.

Nadal's win-loss record at the French Open, his only two losses coming against Swede Robin Soderling in the fourth round in 2009 and against Djokovic in the quarterfinals in 2015.

His tune had softened on Friday though, when he told reporters he understood why players were shunning the anthem. You shouldn't go in a locker room when our national anthem is playing. "We have a great country".

Thiem was considered the stiffest test for Nadal at the French Open and understandably so.

The younger challengers struggle to land a punch, and the last six men's Grand Slam titles have now gone in the sequence of Federer-Nadal-Federer-Nadal-Federer-Nadal.

Thiem however was able to hold serve regularly and had a chance to get back on serve but his break chance at 2-4 evaporated when Nadal hit a sublime drop shot, then passing shot.

"He's one of the best players in the world on this surface", he said, per CNN's Ravi Ubha.

"In the third set I noticed I had cramps in my left hand, I was scared because there was a lot of humidity", he explained in his post-match interview.

Though the sports are so different, Nadal's dominance in the past two weeks - and stretching back to his US Open title in 2017 - bring to mind how sensational LeBron James has been for the Cleveland Cavaliers this season.
