Fleetwood Mac Guitarist Danny Kirwan Dead at 68

The band's founding drummer Mick Fleetwood acknowledged Kirwan's passing in a statement for the group on his Facebook page Friday evening.

The musician passed away in London, England on Friday, though no cause of death has been given. Moreover, when the Rock and Roll Hall Of Fame inducted the band into the organization in 1998, Kirwan didn't even attend the ceremony.

"Danny's true legacy, in my mind, will forever live on in the music he wrote and played so beautifully as a part of the foundation of Fleetwood Mac, that has now endured over fifty years", Fleetwood said on Facebook. "You will be forever missed!"

For several years, Kirwan worked on his musical career, and he recorded three solo albums from the period between 1975 and 1979.

Kirwan was born in the South London neighborhood of Brixton on May 13, 1950.

Kirwan made his recording debut on the band's #1 United Kingdom instrumental hit, "Albatross", released in November 1968.

By now Kirwan was growing apart from his bandmates, but his contribution to this period in the group's history as a guitarist, vocalist and writer is, like that of his fleeting colleague Bob Welch, hard to underestimate. Kirwan wrote some of the key tracks on those albums, "Sands Of Time", "Child Of Mine", and "Bare Trees".

No details about his death were immediately available.
