As bioplastics get popular in India a more genuine green choice is to boot out plastic altogether

Up to five trillion grocery bags are used each year and like most plastic garbage barely any is recycled, the United Nations said Tuesday (Jun 5) as it warned the world was choking on trash.

Twelve local and worldwide companies have made the commitment to change their packaging as part of World Environment Day.

The environment ministry had said the pan-India events include cleanliness campaigns by state governments, cleaning of 24 beaches and 24 rivers in 19 states, making national parks and sanctuaries plastic free, media as well as social media campaigns and organising Envithon mini-marathons in five other cities, besides Delhi.
