Youtube launches premium music service

Australia among first five countries to get new You Tube Music service next week

YouTube to launch music streaming service on 22 May

For the existing YouTube Red members, the current subscription price will continue for YouTube Premium. YouTube Music Premium, not to be confused with YouTube Premium which is something else, costs $9.99 per month.

It is believed that YouTube Music will eventually replace Google Play Music, which is to be fazed out by the company. The service will hone in on those already using YouTube to stream music, aiming to maximize their experience through a redesigned mobile app and new desktop play meant for music. In launching the music service, YouTube is also revamping how it delivers original programming like Cobra Kai and Step Up: High Water to subscribers. Current YouTube Red (soon to be YouTube Premium) members will (at least for the time being) pay the current price.

YouTube appears to be focusing on music discovery. It will then be made available in 14 other countries, including the UK.
